New Players

Welcome to DLHC for the 2026/27 season

About Us
Donaghadee LHC is a small, friendly inclusive club for female hockey players of all abilities and all ages over 15 and we hope it doesn’t take too long for you to discover this. We’ve got two teams playing in Ulster Hockey Leagues and regardless which team you’re selected for, a warm welcome awaits!

How We Operate
DLHC is run by a committee made up of current players who are voted in at the AGM at the end of each season. The Committee is responsible for the general running of DLHC, organising fundraising events, social trips and ensuring everything goes to plan! For a full list of the committee, please see our website and if you have any problems or have any ideas for fundraising or PR, please speak to any of them – they’re always available for a chat!

Our Pitch
Our home pitch is the astroturf pitch at Bangor Grammar which we use for training and home matches. Our Head Coach is Willie McAdam and he has a wealth of hockey experience so if there is something in particular you’d like to work on, this can usually be incorporated in an upcoming session – just shout! Wednesday night from 7.30-9pm is our training night, on the astroturf at BGS.

Our Teams
The 1XI were promoted at the end of the 24/25 season and will play in Senior League 2 this year while the 2XI compete in Junior 9a, with the season running from mid-September to mid-March for both teams.

Many of the games are in or around Belfast with the occasional match further afield – over the last couple of years we have organised a bus trip for these matches for what quickly become the most anticipated fixtures of the year!

Fixtures for both teams can be found on our website www.donaghadeelhc.co.uk.

The Social Stuff
Donaghadee LHC has always been known for its social side and we try to head back to Donaghadee for a drink after at least one match every month. It’s a great way of getting to know the girls off the pitch, even if you can only stay for a short while!

We’ve got a number of annual social events like the Christmas Do and various fundraising events, the first of which is a quiz organised for 5th September. For all the up to date news, keep an eye on WhatsApp and Spond.

Kit
We currently order our playing kit at the start of each season with lead times approximately 4-8 weeks from order. The Kit Order Form is available at the link below and we hope to place this year’s kit order by Sunday 14th September so prompt ordering is much appreciated. If you have any questions on sizing please just ask! Order kit here

The Money Stuff
With ever rising pitch and insurance fees, the club requires that each member of the club contributes to cover these costs, and the current fee structure is as follows:

£160 for the season if paid by 30th September
£170 for the season by the end of November
£170 in two instalments, the first £100 of which must be paid by 12th October, the remainer by the end of November.
£100 for Under 18s

This covers Wednesday evening pitch training and matches on a Saturday and all amounts should be paid to the club by cheque or bank transfer.

The club bank details are as follows:
Dee Hockey Club
Account no: 38786002
Sort Code: 980530

If you have played for a different club within the last couple of years, please let one of the committee know as we need to request a transfer from your previous club before you can play for DLHC.

Hockey Ireland Registration
All players are also required to register with Hockey Ireland for insurance purposes. This costs £26 and can be done at
www.hockeyireland.ie/membership.

Petrol Money
In the case of away games, we usually take it in turns to drive a car load of players to the match to ensure no one player is stuck doing it weeks in a row. Please help out and offer a little petrol money to the driver – every little helps!

Player Sponsorship
We are encouraging players to find individual sponsorship for the 2026/27 season. For £150 donation, half the money (£75) comes to the club to help us with pitch and insurance costs and the other half goes to you, giving you the opportunity to put that money towards your club fees or new kit. In return, your company will get social media coverage and shout outs in our match reports. For full details please speak to Carolyn.

Staying in Contact
We use an app called Spond for training and match availability so please accept or decline any event that you are invited to to help us keep track of participants. Please download the app and find DLHC here https://group.spond.com/XHJXL

Selection for matches is based initially on players declaring their availability with a yay or nay, along with attendance at training, and performance, with the final decision made by our coach, Kerry a few days before the match.

We also have a DLHC group on WhatsApp for keeping up to date with club life which is for all fully signed up members – if you decide we’re the club for you, we’ll be happy to add you once our treasurer Alison has confirmed receipt of fees.

This is just a brief introduction to our wee club – we believe you can best see for yourself by giving us a go. We hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the club members, they’ll be only too glad to help.

Once again, welcome to the club and enjoy the season!

The Committee, DLHC
