Junior League 7: Donaghadee LHC 2XI 0-3 North Down 5XI
Donaghadee Ladies 2XI were at home to North Down last Saturday and Donaghadee were straight into attacking mode with Lynsey Sloan using her skills to combine well with Row Moore to put North Down under pressure. The move worked Carmen van der Schyff in to the circle for a shot but her effort whistled just outside of the post.
North Down were steadily working their way back into the game and, with play end to end, they attacked with purpose. Donagahdee’s defence of Lisa Alexander, Suzie Ferguson and Georgia Ferguson worked well together to make several great clearances to keep the visitors out but North Down scored with two penalty corners in a row to go in to the break 2-0 to the good.
Going into the second half the Dee youngsters enjoyed some some great attacking spells, with Natalie Jamieson sprinting forward to find Caitland Crockett but unfortunately her shot was wide of the post. A clearance from North Down then found captain Karen Fegan who combined with daughter Elle but the North Down keeper was able to clear the ball to safety.
The visitors were soon back on the attack again with Donaghadee keeper Janice McVeigh making a timely save to keep it 2-0 but with North Down making the most of a late penalty corner, the final score finished 3-0. The Seconds have a break from league action on Saturday when they play Malone in the first round of the Minor Cup. Pass back is at 1pm at BGS.
Senior League 3: Annadale 3-0 Donaghadee LHC 1XI
Donaghadee Firsts were unable to replicate the good form of the previous week when they beat Newry 4-1 when they travelled to Lagan College on Saturday. Despite numerous superb saves by keeper Nicola Patton, and solid hockey in most areas of the pitch, the final ball in the Dee in the attacking last quarter was lacking. The girls will be looking to rectify that against South Antrim at home on Saturday, pass back 2.30pm.
