The fixtures have just been released for clubs participating in Ulster Hockey for the 2017/18 season with both Donaghadee Ladies Hockey Club’s 1XI and 2XI starting locally. The Firsts make the short hop to play Bangor 1XI on the opening day of the season – Saturday 16th September – in a recreation of the opening day last season, when the Dee earned the spoils thanks to goals from Carolyn Scott and Kerrie Turtle in a 2-1 scoreline in favour of Donaghadee.
The Seconds begin their 2017/18 campaign at home to Malone, and with lots of the Dee’s schoolgirls now well settled into the red and green, Captain Janice McVeigh is very much looking forward to the encounter. “Although we didn’t always get the results last year, I was so proud of the enthusiasm shown by everyone on the team, and I know there’s going to be lots of determination to do well this season!”
For a full list of fixtures for both teams, please see the Fixtures and Results page.
Reds v Whites | 26th August
As well as fitting in a number of pre-season friendlies before the leagues proper begin, already pencilled into the diary is what’s quickly becoming the traditional season opener: the DLHC Reds v Whites. Scheduled this year for the end of August, it’s a great chance for club members to consolidate a number of weeks’ pre-season training and an opportunity to work on match fitness in this intra-club match.
Open to all club members past, present and future, it always proves a competitive but social affair, with drinks and nibbles for everyone back in Donaghadee after the exertions. This year’s match will take place at BGS on Saturday 26th August.
There’s lots happening for the Dee girls between now and then too though, with plenty to look forward to!
DLHC’s 3 Fs (Fun, Fitness and Fresh Air) | 26th July, 2nd August, 9th August
The 3 Fs kicked off last week in typical Norn Irish summer weather with torrential rain the order of the day but it didn’t deter the hardy souls from putting in a great initial shift on the hallowed gravel at Crommelin Park.
It was fantastic to see a number of new faces and everyone is looking forward to building on last week over the coming Wednesdays: this week (26th), 2nd August and 9th August, from 7.30-8.30pm. Just come along to join in, or email the club for more info on email@example.com
DLHC’s Hooked on Hockey | 16th August, 23rd August
Club members are back on the astroturf on Wednesday 16th August and there’s a real buzz of excitement around the first two sessions: DLHC’s Hooked on Hockey. These two evenings (on 16th and 23rd August) will give non-members the opportunity to try the club out – not to mention participate in the above-mentioned Reds v Whites – so whether you’re thinking of switching clubs, or coming back into hockey, email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
