Dee defence in action against Ards

Junior 8: Ards 4XI 1-0 DLHC 2XI
On Saturday Donaghadee 2XI made the short hop over to Londonderry Park to play local rivals Ards at Londonderry Park with the Dee girls looking to continue their good form of two league draws.

Up front, twins Katie and Molly McKee, ably helped by Laura Smith, did a fantastic job at keeping the pressure on a solid Ards defence to keep the ball at the right end of the pitch. They even managed to force the ball over the Ards goal line but unfortunately for Laura – who got the final touch – the decision did not stand, with an earlier infringement having been called and Ards awarded a free out.

The Dee midfield of Erin Hamilton, Carmen van der Schyff and Finlay Mitchell put in a tremendous shift as they tried to break up any Ards forward play, with Lauren Mann standing out in the central midfield role as she tried to get Donaghadee moving forward again.

When the home team did get through, Donaghadee’s defence of Floss Scott, Mia Park, Natalie Jamison and Lisa Higgins worked tirelessly to ensure keeper Janice McVeigh was a virtual bystander for long periods. Indeed, the most action Janice saw on one occasion was when she had to parry the football which came over the fence from the boys playing on the next pitch over!

Star Players, as voted for by their team mates, were Natalie and Molly this week for their excellent runs forward and their all round team play, and they thanked Kerry Kennedy who stepped in to umpire this game.

Thanks go, as always, to the DLHC supporters and all are welcome to Bangor Grammar next Saturday for a double bill at home when both teams take on Ballynahinch: the 1XI pass back at 1pm while the 2XI’s game against Hinch 3XI gets underway at 245pm, with COVID guidelines and restrictions in operation.

Junior 8 as at 12th October 2020
