21 May 2024: Sixes Excitement Builds

Sixes tournament in aid of cancer charity
The committee are putting the final touches to our new Sixes tournament and the countdown is now on – less than two weeks to the action at Bangor Grammar on Sunday 2nd June, with all proceeds raised from the day going to Friends of the Cancer Centre in Belfast.

An idea to do something to support a cancer charity was first put forward at the start of the season as we looked to find a way to support friends and family who have been affected by cancer.

A Sixes tournament was settled on as a way for not only lots of club members to get involved but with the invitation also being extended to all local clubs, a chance for an afternoon of fun yet competitive hockey on what is sure to be a day for old friends and new, and all in aid of a most worthy cause.

The action is open to all females of 15 and over, and each team will be made up of six players plus subs. With goalkeepers optional, will fortune favour those teams brave enough to play with 6 outfield players? Or will a 1-0 thanks to the keeper’s heroics win the day? Only time will tell…!

Aside from the on-pitch action, there will be giant garden games, a tuck shop and refreshment stall and a barbeque so there will be plenty for non-players too.

The action takes place at Bangor Grammar on Sunday 2nd June from 1-5pm.

For those wishing to enter a team:
– Females 15+
– 6 players plus up to 3 subs, GK optional
– All players should be registered with Hockey Ireland for insurance purposes
– £60 per team
