DLHC Committee is absolutely delighted to share some fantastic news for the upcoming season: one of our very own, Kerry Kennedy, is officially stepping into the role of Player-Coach as we look towards the 2026/27 season.

For the last 12 years, Kerry has never been too far from the centre of midfield for the 1XI and this new season will see her take the reins to guide the club forward from both the sidelines and the thick of the action.

Kerry brings to the role an incredible wealth of experience, having risen through the ranks representing Ulster at U16, U18, and U21 levels, before playing for Scottish Universities. She also spent a formidable ten years playing top-tier hockey in the Ulster Premier League with Knock, and she continues to show her pedigree having most recently represented Ulster at O40s and O45s levels.

In addition to the above accolades, she also captained the mighty Knackered Knockers to victory at the inaugural DLHC Sixes tournament in 2024, proving that her winning touch is as sharp as ever!

Speaking on behalf of the club, DLHC stalwart and Club Treasurer Alison McNeice said:

“Kerry has been a big part of the DLHC family for 12 years now, so when the conversation came about, we were all hugely excited. She loves the club, and her hockey CV speaks for itself. With the experience she brings, along with knowing exactly what makes Donaghadee tick, it’s an exciting start to the 2026/27 season!”

Kerry’s new dual role means the club gets the best of both worlds: her tactical nous during training sessions and playing ability on the pitch on Saturdays.

With pre-season training just around the corner, it’s great to have this locked in and we’re all very much looking forward to getting the season started

Pre-Season Dates
Pre-season training with start with 4 weeks of fitness at the Commons in Donaghadee. Led by Personal Trainer Stephen Montgomery, it will be an excellent platform to prepare for getting back on the pitch, and whether you’re a seasoned regular, a returning face or someone looking to pick up a stick for the first time, come along and join the fun in this exciting new chapter for the club!

Wednesday 22nd and 29th July, 5th and 12th August at the tennis court end of the Commons, 7.30-8.30pm.
