Senior League 3: DLHC 1XI 1-1 Ballynahinch
Hot on the heels of two superb victories in as many weeks, Donaghadee Ladies Hockey Club’s 1XI were aiming to make that three in a row as the first half of the league programme draws to a close. Ballynahinch were the visitors to Bangor Grammar this time round and coach Brian McKee had a full squad at his disposal with the Seconds having no match.
It was an evenly contested opening period, with both teams trying to find some sort of rhythm although Donaghadee probably shaded the attacking chances. As has been the case in the last three games, the Dee were first to score; Paige Reilly playing Captain Fantastic got the last touch at a penalty corner to give Donaghadee a 1-0 lead.
The lead didn’t last long, however with Ballynahinch taking their chance at the other end to quickly level things up again. Just before half time, Donaghadee had the ball in the back of the net again but the away umpire adjudged a foul to have taken place in a previous phase of play and the goal was ruled out.
Donagahdee were unable to capitalise further, despite several great chances in the second half, but the point gained from this match is enough to ensure that they remain third in the league table. Thanks to Hannah Simpson for umpiring and to Stanley Woods and Co Accountants for sponsoring the match ball. The Firsts now have a week off before they play PSNI at home on Saturday 2nd December.
Fresh from a week’s break, DLHC 2XI play NICS at home on Saturday, pass back 1pm.
