After a quiet couple of months members of Donaghadee Ladies Hockey Club are back in action with lots to look forward to as the new hockey year approaches.
Pre-season training for all senior members of the club kicked off last week at Bangor Grammar and it was great to see not only plenty of players returning after the break but also to see numerous new faces joining the girls as they were put through their paces.
The club has lined up a number of pre-season friendlies for both the 1XI and 2XI which will allow everyone to get a good run out before the season proper kicks off on the weekend of 21st September when the 1XI open 2019/20 away to Instonians.
While the 2XI fixtures have yet to be announced by Ulster Hockey, the action starts this weekend with friendlies against Larne, the first of which takes place at Bangor Grammar on Friday night, pass back 8pm, with the return leg happening on Saturday at Larne Grammar School, pass back 2pm, in what will be two competitive matches for the Dee girls.
With further games pencilled in against Bangor the following weekend and then a double header at home to Saintfield on Saturday 14th September it is hoped that all players will have the opportunity for a run out to improve match fitness before the leagues start.
Senior training takes place every Wednesday evening at BGS from 7.30-9pm and is open to all females aged 15 or over regardless of experience or ability, and new faces are always most welcome.
