After 10 years at the helm, Brian McKee has decided to step back as Head Coach of DLHC. Having overseen our transition from the hallowed shale of Crommelin Park to current luxurious home at BGS via Bangor Academy, Brian’s unfailing enthusiasm, love of the game and vast experience has guided many of our players’ hockey careers.
From his early days in charge when the victories were (even) hard(er) to come by – the last minute 4-3 win away to Ballynahinch in the final game before Christmas on a bog of a pitch marking our first win of that particular season, followed by the exultant celebrations in the Tivoli one particular highlight that springs to mind – right to last season’s premature final whistle, Brian has lived and breathed the Dee for a decade, giving his time and expertise freely and always managing to find the positives, even after the direst of defeats (and there have been a few over the years!)
We look forward to celebrating his contribution to the club as soon as we’re able to do it properly in person, but for now, a heartfelt thank you to him from all the players – hopefully watching from the sideline with a cuppa in hand or after-match pint will be all the more enjoyable having not spent 70 minutes going through the wringer in the dugout!
As we bid a fond farewell to Brian, we are delighted to announce that Willie McAdam is joining the club as Head Coach for the incoming season.
Willie brings with him extensive experience which has reaped no small amount of silverware, having been joint coach of the Coleraine 2XI squad which won 3 successive titles (Junior 6, Junior 5 and Junior 4) between 2016 and 2019, and which reached the Junior Cup final in 2017, losing out only to Omagh who won the league above that year.
He has also enjoyed success with the Ulster Masters, coaching the O50 Ladies who were crowned InterPro champions in 2018 and 2019 – a feat he hoped to emulate in 2020 before the pandemic put paid to all hockey earlier this year.
We have no doubt that we as a club will benefit massively under Willie’s tutelage and who knows – some of the magic Ws might even start to rub off on us!
Willie has long been a friend and supporter of DLHC so we’re absolutely thrilled he’s now joining us in an official capacity. Welcome aboard, Willie and Mon the Dee!
